NMC's Texture Packs option in the installer please

Post by outsidefactor » Thu Jan 22, 2015 1:41 am

I just want to open with a thank-you to everyone who has contributed to TTW: it's an amazing achievement and shows an amazing level of dedication.

I've just finished my first ever successful play-through of the main quest with TTW (I always stalled at Tenpenny Towers before this), and besides the Nevada Skies Citadel courtyard bug rearing it's ugly head, I had a fairly faultless play-through. The only thing I missed was the F3 NMC texture pack, and that, in the end, came down to the complexity of the install.

Normally I can follow instructions with the best of them, but I find these days that I yearn to play more and tinker less, and this time around my instruction following abilities abandoned me about two thirds of the way through the integration instructions, and it occurred to me that it was something that would be very easy to include in the TTW assembly/install process as an option in the installer app.

Am I crazy? It seems to me a task best done while you're installing TTW, and it seems like only a few extra check-boxes and logic would be required. I couldn't even find the Red Wood/Burnt Fence fix it refers to, no matter how I prod Google.

Thanks again, and for taking the time to read this.

EDIT: OK, I found the Red Wood/Burnt Fence fix on the NMC NV Nexus site after I played with adding underscores... but still, have pity on an Old Fogey like me! The old brain don't work like it used to!

What's stopping you?  At least from learning while you wait for someone to come around and do that.

You did see this?

We're probably not going to

We're probably not going to include NMC in the installer. If we did we'd have to include every texture pack under the sun and it's just not really worth it. Sorry.

I'm old too, and I tried to

I'm old too, and I tried to make the instructions as simple as possible. Being old should make it easier since you are probably more familiar with cmd line and managing files than the younger gen.

Don't make no bets on it. [Well, that's assuming you're older than I am, making me one of the 'younger gen'].

Never had a computer until the mid '90's, never had a decent computer until 2005, and at 50+ everything I've learned about them is thru lifes hard knocks exp. Still don't even know how to use a lot of the more basic elements, like spreadsheets. Sigh....

Still a puppy [comparatively speaking, no offense of any kind meant].

But what we'll probably never

Post by thermador » Thu Feb 19, 2015 5:59 pm

But what we'll probably never see is texture packs in the installer.  There are many reasons:

* We would have to get permissions from the texture pack creators

* Everyone wants different resolution levels and different combinations of texture packs

* Consequently, the installer's download size would be gigantic

TTW is not a total conversion mod.  We have an expressly stated goal of keeping everything as vanilla and seamless as possible, while still adding the FNV engine enhancements to the FO3 worldspace.  Beyond that, modding, including texture packs, is up to the individual.
