Couple of ideas

Post by Senterpat » Fri Feb 22, 2013 7:55 pm

So I got to play for a couple of hours last night and had a couple of suggestions.

The trait menu could appear when James says "I wonder what kind of person you'll grow up to be"

Also the chem labs (or at least the ones I've come across) can't be used to make chems.

Love the idea, makes sense

Love the idea, makes sense and it fits in with the whole character creation part. But I wonder if there's actually an order of things to be done with character creation. First you make your appearance, then special, and then test for tag skills. So I'm not sure it will work.

And I don't think any chem labs in the CW actually make any chems. Those are just there because the fit the environment. But I'm sure someone might be able to turn a few into actual chemistry sets.

Now that you mention I think you're right. I think choosing a trait that changes special will be reset when choosing your specials. I'll check it out tonight.

Sorry I wasn't clear on what I meant. It was a cross content request to make the Chem labs in cw functional.

I actually don't remember

I actually don't remember when you get to pick traits in TTW.

No I understood what you meant. I'm sure someone could turn the chem labs into functioning ones instead of just room decor. Might help people using hardcore. You might check the fallout 3 nexus or even the new vegas nexus. Might be a mod that turns all in game chem labs into working ones. If such a mod did exist, it might actually turn the CW ones into chem labs.

About the chem sets, there is a FNV mod that does that, but I have no idea if it works in the Capital Wasteland ones or not (Never used the mod)

Thanks for the link. I might check it out just to see if it does change the CW versions.

If not, I might do a little tinkering and see what I can come up with.

You pick traits before the goat exam, right after yyour dad let's you go.

Brilliant idea! I believe that they are the same item id, so it should work. I should be home in a couple of hours and can test itt out.

You know I made the same

You know I made the same suggestion about traits once, long ago. We came to the conclusion that SPECIAL basically HAD to be figured out first. Other than that, I agree, when he is asking what kind of person you will be is the perfect place to put it.

Turns out the chem labs don't work with that mod installed. :( I was sure that would work.

I have no knowledge of modding or GECK, but I had the feeling it wouldn't work, was just a shot in the dark. Why I thought it wouldn't work was because (again I have no knowledge so I might be way out of the true reason) I think that to make that work you would have to make a way for the chem labs to be activated (maybe like a script or switch or effect, I have no idea) which in my mind means that what the mod maker did was apply that script, switch whatever to each of the chem labs in NV, since he didn't (or I guess couldn't) apply that thing to the CW ones, they just don't work.

Again if someone with more knowledge than me could correct me if I am wrong it would be good, we always learn something from our mistakes cheeky.
