Ok thanks. Is there anything in particular that needs to be tested?  Which start do you prefer that I use?

Has anyone played this with the UI mods like Darn, OneHud, Ihud etc?

Curious if others have received the same:

I receive this error using the 221 installer after clicking 'install;' I guess what I'd like to ask is 1) what exactly the installer is doing, what files is it targeting and 2) if there is a difference between requiring a 'clean install' and making sure the versions of the two games are just up to date.

I'm running XP service pack 3 with 2012 redistributable c++ (courtesy of Jax, thanks!) and - of course - have both games patched to the latest versions and everything else in order. Was able to run version 1.4a just fine after extracting everything manually and am wondering if we can do something similar for 2.0 in order to work around using this installer which seems opaque to me.

I understand the rational for using this language 'requiring a clean install' to make sure most people don't run into issues, but I guess I'm curious to find a workaround and to better understand the installation process so that I can figure out what I need to do to get things to work with my present configuration. So what's actually required? What does having a clean install do that having the latest patches for both games does not?

I got a little pop up box

Post by nathanj » Sun Apr 07, 2013 7:19 am

I got a little pop up box that said I should report this......

Tale of Two Wastelands was found at F:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\

TaleOfTwoWastelands - Main.bsa could not be found in F:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Data\

TaleOfTwoWastelands - Main.bsa could not be found in F:\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\

Extracting Fallout - Misc.bsa...

Extracting Fallout - Meshes.bsa...

Extracting Fallout - Textures.bsa...

Cleaning up duplicate resources...

Building TaleOfTwoWastelands - Main.bsa...

Building complete, verifying version...

Your version of TaleOfTwoWastelands - Main.bsa cannot be patched.

TaleOfTwoWastelands - Main.bsa could not be found in F:\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\

TaleOfTwoWastelands - Main.bsa failed to patch properly...

Done

It continued on and everything else seemed to go without a hitch.  This happened the first time but that was with my previous install and I had just removed my mods.  I uninstalled FNV and deleted the entire folder and reinstalled it and the same thing occured.

When I started the game up it froze at the guy in the Riot Gear with the revolver and I didn't get a menu.

Also, it only took me between 15-20 minutes.  I have seen other people posting over an hour, was something missed? I have a quad core though and it was using them all so that might be why.

This was with both a fresh install of FO3 and FNV where I only started the launcher to generate the ini files.  I used the ttw_patcher_1.exe

@TrickyVein

I am not sure if you removed the old TTW files first from your NV folder (you should). I run the installer from a separate directory on my harddisk (where he has full writing rights) in administration mode on Windows 7 and let him extract and convert the TTW files that he produces also in a separate folder. So nothing of my NV & FO3 installation is touched by the installer and I get all the TTW files in a separate directory. With this method I see what the installer is producing and can them add later on manually to my NV installation with a simply copy or make a Fomod package.

@nathanj

I assume you have a similar problem and this method can help you.

I started it in from my desktop and had the TTW folders install to a folder on my desktop called "TTW Stuff"

I got the same pop up message again.   My games are located on a separate drive from my desktop which is on my C drive.  Would that be causing any problems.

I ran it all three times as administrator mode although I have UAC off anyways and my profile is administrator anyways.
